We spoke to Fay Selby-Law who spoke about their Aukati Kaipaipa service. They have a menu of services for their people to use.

Pua Moeawa Phillips from Te Wānanga o Aotearoa shared with our listeners that TWoA have taken the bold step and as a national organisation to ensure that all their campuses throughout the Motu will adhere to the Tūpeka Kore, Aukati Kaipaipa, Auahi Kore, Smoke Free 2025 kaupapa.

  • Tūpeka Kore Activities organised around Matariki the Māori New Year
  • Campaigning around targeting Hapū Māmā, and our young Māori kotiro. Aukati Kaipaipa.
  • Dedicated to supporting our Māori whānau, hapū, and iwi and tauira that attend the Wā.

Anya, Charlotte and Taylor shared with the listeners of the Hāpai Hauora Hour and feedback their thoughts on completing their second Community Action work group kaupapa around Tūpeka Kore, Auahi Kore Smoke Free 2025 and the amazing korero from Marama Fox Maori Party Co Leader and Member of Parliament.

  • Tūpeka Kore painted finger prints and individual pledges, whakatauakī and personal thoughts and goals highlighted.
  • Marama Fox’s story about her smoking journey and how she was able to overcome this smoking pathway.
  • Young Maori and Pasifika women are the high risk targets for Government policy.

On the Hapai hour today Anya, Charlotte and Taylor were interviewed on their smoke free kaupapa, there Tupeka kore Action group number 3- Putting the action in to the group, and how their own smoke free journeys are going.

On air the girls talked about how some dairies in west Auckland region were selling single cigarettes to the people in our communities. They commenced an experiment to see if this was true and walked away with a cigarette, a can of coke and a pie all for under $5.00- The killer combo as they called it. They spoke about their 3rd Tupeka Kore Action Group, and how it was time to put the action into action group. On the 24th of July they plan to do a protest outside the dairy which sells single cigarettes.

This was a historic occasion for the Hāpai Hour on Radio Waatea 603, as Glen Halbert from Te Rūnanga o Kirikiriroa was our first telephone interview. Glen’s area of work was in Te Aukati Kai Paipa sector of the whole tobacco control, Tūpeka Kore, Auahi kore, Aukati Kai Paipa, Smokefree 2025 kaupapa.

  • Glen shared with the listeners about his experiences as an Aukati Kai Paipa quit coach under the umbrella of Te Rūnanga o Kirikiriroa.
  • Hands on contact with whānau, individuals, groups who want to quit.
  • Sharing of the Smokefree 2025 goal in Kirikiriroa and supporting whānau to reclaim smoke free lives.
  • Māori were once a Smokefree people – it wasn’t our Māori Tikanga and culture.

 

Doctor Nina Scott discussed and shared with the listeners her experiences and thoughts around an important but neglected and under-funded area of hapū māmā. Even though this area around hapū māmā will be a health target next year which means things will be getting better for this kaupapa.

  • Addressing intense issues and action plans around hapū māmā and the supporting infrastructures for their pēpi and whānau.
  • How to enhance and strengthen the fact that the hapū māmā sector is seriously underfunded.
  • Lobby local and central government agencies. Collaborate and network widely within Te Aukati Kai Paipa sector of the whole tobacco control, Tūpeka Kore, Auahi kore, Aukati Kai Paipa, Smokefree 2025 kaupapa.
  • Continue to share the passion around hapū māmā living Smokefree lives.

  • Our Whāea Kahurangi (Dame) June Mariu spoke passionately on the just completed Māori Netball completion that was held in Te Whanganui ā Tara, Poneke Wellington.
  • Te Waka Tūpeka Kore wānanga held at Te Iti o Hauā outcomes agreed upon.

 

Brevis Wolfgram spoke professionally as well as passionately about his kaupapa around Te Wero Stop Smoking Competition for Auckland.

  • Working in the whole region of Auckland and has secured participation from the Auckland Rugby League, Counties Manukau Rugby League as well as the Otara Scorpions Women’s rugby league team as well as the NZ Navy and NZ Air Force.
